ECOBA Centurion Elimination Challenge @ PJ Trade Centre, Damansara Perdana [18th October 2010]

ECOBA is one of the many latest bar that emerge from the blooming bar industry in the Klang Valley. Located at the newly opened business park, PJ Trade Centre in Damansara Perdana, it is considered by many to be one of the most happening bar in Klang Valley.
Ecoba: Eat, Chill, Oogle

For those that is still in the dark about ECOBA, it is actually a place for you to chill with their in-house food and drinks. When I mentioned drinks here, it means boozes; from beers to liquors. Obviously, they do serve non-alcoholic drinks for those who are not so daring with alcohol.
Happening Monday atmosphere in ECOBA

Last year October I paid my first visit to ECOBA with my buddies, Michael, Iris, Hock Beng and Mei Kheng for a chill out session. More than an usual chilling session, our main purpose being here were to watch a live signature competition of ECOBA, Centurion Elimination Challenge.
ECOBA Centurion Elimination Stage

While waiting for the competition to start, Iris ordered a plate of pizza as our finger food.
Ecoba Pizza
Tasted pretty good.

So what is ECOBA Centurion Challenge? It is actually a competition where each session consists of 10 contestants who will be challenging themselves to down 100 shots each within 100 minutes. Each contestant is given a minute to finish up a shot of beer. After a shot of the beer is downed, the contestant will be given a fresh new minute to down the next shot. The process will continue until you down the 100th shots of beer and you will walk away with a whopping cash prize of RM 1,800. Sounds easy isn't it? However, you will be eliminated once your started to throw out. Oh ya, no toilet break is allowed too!

On my visit, ECOBA added a new twist to it's traditional Centurion Challenge. Named as the ECOBA Centurion Elimination Challange, each contestant will now takes turn to call for their desired shots (1 -10) for each minute. Same rules applied, but you will get extra RM 100 cash for each eliminated contestants up to an extra of RM 900 if you are the last man standing that able to finish up the 100th shots.
The challenge is about to start

There were only 9 contestants on my previous visit to Ecoba. God knows why the last contestant were missing. The 9 contestants for the 18th October 2010 consisted of 6 males (Mr Koh, Mr Goh, Adrian, Craig, Oliver and a teenager) and 3 Females (May, Kim and Jamie).
Contestants are all pumped up!

Pictures were not enough to express the madness and craziness of this fun-filled competition. Will the sole westerner for the night, Craig will defeat the rest of the Asians? Try taking a guess on who is the winner for the night before clicking the play button for the footage video of the ECOBA Centurion Challenge on the night of 18th October 2010 below:

Overall, it was a great experience chilling out in ECOBA. From the delicious pizza to looking at how much beer can do to a person during the challenge, it does give me reasons for a revisit to ECOBA real soon.

ECOBA Centurion Challenge is back by popular demand and is running on every Monday at 9.30pm. However, the challenge will be reschedule to every Saturday, pending time announcement. If you have the burning urge to join the challenge do remember to contact them first to avoid dissapointment. Movida Grand Opening Party @ Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara [23rd April 2010]

There was this new club cum pub that just opened not too long ago at the happening hub of Sunway Giza. Named as the Movida, the grand lauch of the club was held in last April.

I received an invitation from my friend to join the grand launch of the club. I was a little reluctant since I toned down on alcohol a lot but in the end decided to join at the last minute to see what the launch had to offer. Since I already visited this place with my cousins weeks ago before the grand launch, it is good to check out how much they've improved.
Movida Club at Sunway Giza

I reached the place at 8.45 pm and it was so darn crowded! I had a hard time trying enter the premise what's more to grab some of the food offered.
Crowds busy getting the food

Dance or band performance are typical show during a launch, but it was my really first time seeing a lion dance performance at a club.
Lion dance performance

After the lion dance performance ended, I was greeted by those models of the launch to drop some words for Movida.

Dropping a signature!

My signature of congratulatory!

Grand launch is always accompanied by free flow of alcoholic drinks. Thirsty I was, I headed to the station which was serving free beers. As usual, beer always had a good reception amongst the crowd, so I know I need to be a little patience to queue up for my beer.

I was being hopeful at first, but after some 15 minutes of queuing, I still did not get my share of beer. The queue was moving extremely slow. A check at the station showed that the bar tender sometimes passed those free beers to other people who did not queue. What pissed me off even more was that he passed them in jugs rather than mug! Ultimate frustration on such a crappy system!
Crappy serving time of beer!

After more than 20 minutes of queuing up, I still yet to get a mug of beer. I gave up and proceeded to the inner premise of Movida! Since the span area were not huge, it required some task to get to the back of the bar which serves free cocktails. I'd managed to sneak my way through and I was thankful that I did get my cocktail after just minutes of wait.
A full house Movida

Later on, I was invited to the VIP area which was on the upper floor of the club. It was way a lot better, as it was less packed and I get my free beer in jugs rather than mug. Now this is what I call free flow!

With the themed models!

On that night, it was just too packed for even some movement what's more for dancing. The free flow ended at 10.30pm and whilst I did bumped into some old friends of mine, I did not stayed up there long. Overall, I wouldn't say the grand launch was that grand. Only if they'd monitored the free flow station a little better to reduce the frustration among the crowd..

Cleopatra Inauguration Party @ The Opera Club, Sunway Pyramid [20th May 2010]

A new club it is, The Opera Club located in Sunway Pyramid has been introducing and marketing many themed nights. One of it was the Cleopatra Night inauguration party which was recently held .

Cleopatra Night is a new themed night of The Opera that will be held on every Thursday night catered especially to those college students.

The privileges on a Cleopatra Night

Whilst I've been toning down a lot on the clubbing activities, sometimes it is just hard to resist the temptation of invitation to a free flow session. What's more when you are free and have the companion of Hock Beng and Michael. So, let's go!
The workers on the themed dress

Fancy their costume?

We were greeted by free flows of cocktails and beer. It was easy to get glasses of cocktails with the waiter serving around. However, you might need to queue a little to get your free glass of beer. Kudos to the management team because the queue were organized and every one was seen happy with their free share.
Free flow of cocktails and beer

The first show of the night were the Cleopatra dance I supposed, with a woman clad in a modified version of sari dancing with another woman in their in-house Cleopatra designed costume.

Crowd getting larger as the time passed by

Went for another round of beer while waiting for Hock Beng and another show performance.
My initial !=)

By 9.30pm another performance was up. Named the Fire Dance, it was actually quite a fiery one. You can actually feel the heat from the flaming sticks.
Fire Dance

The dance was alright but the quality of a performer was a let down. I believed one of the performer was actually a transsexual, a not so fully transformed yet!
The closing dance

Only the 3 of us for the night

Interested with the Cleopatra Theme and privileges? Just remember that it is held on every Thursday night from 8pm onwards to late, only at The Opera, Sunway Pyramid!

Duke Bar & Restaurant @ TTDI Plaza, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail

Looking for a place to unwind or to release your stress? Some clubs and pubs are good, but sometimes they get too crowded that it increases your stress level instead. It's difficult to think of one, isn't it?

Duke Bar & Restaurant which is located in TTDI plaza, offers a new dimension for you to unwind whilst maintaining the happening attributes of a good pub and bar.
Duke Bar & Restaurant

I was introduced to this bar by my friend. It did not took me long to fall in love with the place. Ever since, this is the place where we chill out especially during the World Cup month.
Very homey ambiance

Instead of the typical yellowish and dark lighting offered by most of the bars or pubs, the bar is lighted up by LED. Every once in a while, the bar will be illuminated in different colours, thanks to the implementation of the LED technology. It was as though you were watching the light traveling around the bar. The sightings were pretty addictive though!
Rainbow lighting is a pleasure to the eyes

The drinks being offered here ranges from draft beer to hard liquor. For those who are a little adventurous, you can actually opt for their cocktails. Remember to ask for assistance from their ever friendly bar tender or hostess should you need any recommendation.
Ever friendly bar tender

You will be surprise with the very reasonable price of the drinks. Do check out their on going promotions at their home page.
3 pints of Kilkenny/Guinness @ RM 50

If you are not a fan of beer, need not to worry because they do offer hard liquor as well. A glass a bottle, it is totally up to you.
Vodka with orange juice

You need some game to spice up the session? Be sure to ask for their dicey game. Best to play with some alcoholic drinks as punishment.
Dicey Game

EPL is just around the corner and many of you will not want to miss the live actions of it. Worry no more, because they show live football matches in High Definition. Don't miss the chance of watch Fernando Torres that seems to have more freckles than ever.

These are the moments on my previous visits with my buddies.

When Hock Beng said 1 is enough

Come and explore further!

I was not paid nor compensated for writing this post. But this bar definitely deserved some credits for the euphoric atmosphere. Oh, remember to try their food as well and you will surely agree with me that this bar is worth a revisit!

Atmosphere: 9/10
Price: 7/10
Verdict: A whole new dimension of unwinding experience.

Cheapest Beer Tower Restaurant Piccadilly @ Millennium Square, PJ

When we talked chilling out, we always linked them to beers. However, as much as I love beer, I find the beer pricing in Malaysia is way too expensive and not worth for the price of what we are paying for. Instead, I would always prefer to have cocktails or sharing some bottles with friends.

However, there is a restaurant cum cafe lied somewhere deep in the residential area of Asia Jaya that offers beer at a very very reasonable price. It was located at Millenium Square, a square where towers of high rise condominiums seen scrapping the sky above.

The spanned area was huge, taking up almost the whole square with seats and chairs being arranged along the walkway.
Along the walkway of the square

Alright, so how much do you paid for a jug of beer usually? The best price I ever paid for was RM 29 per jug, and that was during the happy hour time. Can you believe that this place actually sell a tower of Beer at only RM 50? Yes, it's RM 50, with no terms and conditions applied, and best of all it is all night long!
A Carlsberg Tower (RM 50)

I was with Eddie, when we needed some beer badly due to the soaring temperature during the Chinese New Year. The best part about ordering a tower of beer was that it gave you a chance to draft your own beer while maintaining the coldness of the beer.
Self-service

Nothing beats the beer during the hot weather!
Prosperity beer

There were a wide range of food to choose from should you want to munch something or even to satisfy your hungriness. I did ordered a bowl of Tom Yam soup to cure my craving for some spicy soup.
Seafood Tom Yum (RM 4.90)
It was full with flavour. This was exactly the Tom Yum that fitted my taste bud perfectly. It was so good that I just couldn't stop sipping upon sip. Together with their generous portion of ingredients, it just made my day.

After the fantastic Tom Yum soup, I couldn't resist but to order another plate of fried udon.
Fried Seafood Udon (RM 6.90)
I find it a little salty. It should be better if it were lighter with salt. There were some hint of wok hei. The portion was decent and seriously you couldn't get any fried udon that of this price.

Eddie and I had difficulty finishing the tower even though we were craving for it badly. There were still some left in the tower, but I guess this is the best we could.
Finally, we have done it!

The total bill came to RM 68 inclusive of 10% service charge. Honestly, where can you find such a great food with very cheap beer tower at such a decent atmosphere. The answer is here for you.

Tom Yum Soup : 8/10
Fried Seafood Udon : 6/10

Atmosphere: 6/10

Price: 8/10
Verdict: The cheapest beer tower in town!

Royak Oak @ Jaya One [5th Feb 2010]

A Friday night it was, a week before the Chinese New Year! Received a text from Michael asking whether was I free for some drinks at Jaya One. I told him it was alright for me as long as I have transport going there since my new car have yet to ready.

Michael told me that I can follow Hock Beng's car since he will be joining the session too, with a friend of his. Oh, I was thinking at that time, who was that, really am very curious. I texted him, and he said he will give me a lift.

Kilkenny is the drink!
Our favourite drink at Royak Oak. At only RM 50 nett for 3 pints, it seriously keep you asking for more!

A pint and a perfect pint of Kilkenny

Some finger foods during the drinking session.
French Fries
The fries were no doubt very fresh and very addictive. But at it's price of RM 9++ per basket, I find it very pricey though.

The man responsible for dragging me out

So, the friend of his was actually Janice. It has been more than 3 years since I last saw her at Kuantan. I knew her way back then during my college time through Hock Beng. She still look pretty much the same though. And just when we thought whether will we bumped into some familiar faces, June appeared. Well, not surprising since this is her usual chilling place.
In the name of TARCians
Accounts vs Business vs Computer Science

It was a great catching up session. We lingered around till about 2am before we went to have our late supper at Kuchai Lama. Do keep in touch mates before our next get-together!=)

By far one a good place to unwind with some drinks at a very reasonable price.
