Meow Meow Seafood Grill Fish Restaurant @ Sunway Mentari

With so many new food stalls blooming in Sunway Mentari Business Park, it is really hard to keep track of them. One of the latest addition of food stall here name themselves as Meow Meow.

Don't get them wrong though, it is not a food stall serving cat related food but it's a stall that serves halal Chinese seafood. Their full name of the stall is rather long though, Meow Meow Seafood Grill Fish Restaurant and you can expect standard dishes that you get from a typical restaurant, with a few signature dish to boast.
Meow Meow Seafood Grill Fish Restaurant

There are two area that you can opt to dine in, the air-conditioned area in the inside or the al-fresco way along the walkway outside.
Air-conditioned in the inside

I've been here twice and here are some of the food that I've tried.
Claypot Bean Curd (RM 12)
Consisted of Japanese bean curd that comes together with mixed vegetables, mushrooms, prawns and chicken fillets. It tasted pretty decent and comes in a generous portion. One of the dish that went really well with the rice.

Stir Fried "Four Heavenly Vegetables" (RM 12)
Lady fingers, eggplant, long beans and petai are being fried with sambal belacan. It was full with flavour where the sambal coated the vegetables really well. Not only that, they stir fried them to really dry and it brings out the best of sambal belacan. Twice I've eaten, and twice it taste as great!

Fried Kung- Pow Styled Mantis Prawn (RM 12)
Another dish that are bursting with flavour. Full of wok-hei but the mantis prawn are rather small though as you tasted more flour than the meat.

Herbal Steamed Chicken (RM 20)
One of their signature dish here. The chicken pieces are wrapped in an aluminum foil taste before it was steamed. It has a mild taste of herbal with some hint of Chinese wine. I don't find the taste as impressive as how my Mum finds it.

Wouldn't a visit to a seafood grill restaurant is incomplete if it did not consist of any seafood?
Tom Yam Steamed Prawn (RM 32)
Served in an aluminium foil, the fresh succulent and juicy tiger prawn comes with an ass-kicking tom yam flavoured gravy. The sweetness and the sourness are perfectly balanced, like the one you've always wish for in a good tom yam. A very appetizing dish indeed.

They do serve crab as well but it is dependent on the crab availability from their supplier. Don't expect large size crab here as the size of the crab here are fairly small to slightly medium size.
Marmite Fried Crab (RM 42 per kg, varied as per seasonal rate)
Tasted decent but could have been better if the gravy are less salty. A plus point is that the crab are fresh, resulting to a succulent meat.

Homemade Cocunut Jelly
A complimentary dessert after the meal. It was ok, after all, you don't complain on complimentary food, don't ya?

Twice I've been here and I must admit that I'm quite impressed with their food. The taste were consistent throughout my visits. The price of the food are reasonable and come in a fairly decent portion. Definitely a recommended place to have a simple yet delicious food that comes with a reasonable price.

Atmosphere: 5.5/10
Food: 7.5/10
Price: 6.5/10
Verdict: Do not missed out on the Stir Fried "Four Heavenly Vegetables" and the Tom Yam Steamed Prawn.

Ocean Batu Maung Seafood Restaurant @ Batu Maung, Penang

When I first came to Penang as a kid in the mid 90's, my Uncle brought me to a fishing village known as Batu Maung for seafood. From that time on, we will never miss visiting Batu Maung for seafood whenever we are in Penang. The memory is still fond till today, especially on the taste of the deliciously prepared baked meat crab.

Time flies and it is already year 2010. My parents and I decided to revisit Batu Maung for some seafood but we were informed by our favourite old restaurant operator that the restaurant has no longer in business. Disappointed I was, I was not about to give up. On my last night on my previous trip to Penang, I drove all the way to Batu Maung with Pei Yee and we found a relatively new seafood restaurant in the name of Ocean Batu Maung Seafood Restaurant.
Ocean Batu Maung Restaurant

The place look relatively new from the outside and later I was informed that this restaurant has been relocated here from the deeper side of Batu Maung.
A newly renovated restaurant

Unlike the former Batu Maung seafood restaurant, this newly renovated restaurant offered a cooling air-conditioned atmosphere.
Clean and cozy atmosphere

Since we are at Batu Maung, we ordered nothing but just seafood and seafood.
Kam Heong La La (RM 8 per plate)
The generous accompaniments of dried shrimps and curry leaves brings out the true Kam Heong flavour. Not only that, it was neither fried too dry nor too soggy. Defnitely fit to be one of the better kam heong la-la that I have tasted.

Fried Squids (RM 8 per plate)
I thought the flour coating of the squids were lacking in flavour. Even the crispiness and the chili sauce failed to make it taste any better.

Grilled Fish (RM 16 per plate)
I was not impressed with their grilled fish. The chili gravy (sambal) coating tasted awful with a very strong and weird taste of belacan.

Next, time for the infamous old favourite seafood dish of mine, the baked crab.
Ocean Batu Maung Baked Crab (RM 45 per kilo)

The size of the crab served on that night were pretty decent with a crab weighing 400g to 500g each.
Smile crabby!

The taste of it?
I still believe that meat crab are best eaten by baking them just like how Batu Maung seafood restaurant prepares them. It maintained the succulence and tenderness of the slightly spongy crab meat. Besides that, you get to taste the natural sweetness of the crab as well. And yes, I have to admit that Ocean Batu Maung Seafood Restaurant brings back the good old memories of a delicious baked crab. Not only that, the crab meat here tasted insanely sweet that I thought I'm eating sugar. Two thumbs up from me!

Complimentary Mixed Fruit Platter

Just before we went off, we went to observe their live seafood tank section.
The live seafood tanks

Fresh and still alive

Some other seafood for your choice

The total bill came to RM 86.50 inclusive of drinks and wet towels. I thought the price was very reasonable judging the portion of their serving and the amount of seafood that we had. Adding on, they do not have extra surcharge of service or government charges.

Overall, the seafood dinner was enjoyable with a very cozy ambiance. Definitely I'll be back for more crab and crabs on my next Penang trip.

Verdict: Their baked crab is a bomb while the grilled fish is forgettable.

Hok Seng Steamboat Buffet @ Sunway Mentari Business Park, PJ

If one mentioned about Sunway Mentari, there is no doubt that it will trigger someone to think of steamboat buffet. Steamboat buffet around Sunway Mentari has been mushrooming for the past few years. With more than 10 choices around, every stall operator need to come out with fresh ideas to lure the customers.

One of the latest addition to the Sunway Mentari steamboat stall is the Hok Seng Steamboat. Located at the new Sunway Mentari Business Park Phase 2, this stall allowed you to have a steamboat buffet at the price of RM 23.80 per pax.
Restoran Hok Seng Steamboat

The stall is nicely renovated with great setup and lighting. A very welcoming ambiance indeed for you to enjoy the steamboat.
Welcoming ambiance

Upon seated, you will be served with a bowl of chicken soup as an appetizer.
Chicken soup
The soup is quite similar to the shark fin soup. Starchy, but this one consisted of a lot of chicken meat instead of shark fin and crab meat. No complain on the taste though.

Marmite Chicken Wing
One of their specialty dish. Wings were deep fried before being drizzled with seasoned marmite gravy. Not entirely like marmite as the taste were more on the sweet side. Pretty addictive though.

Fried Wan Tan and Sui Kow
This is the fried stuff where I enjoyed eating the most. The wan tan and sui kow were freshly fried resulted to a mild crisp on the outside that went well with the decent paste within. One helping is never enough. Best to dip with some mayonnaise.

Oil Fritters Stuffed with Fish Paste
Decent and nothing really "wow" in particular.

Fried Chicken Boxing
Well fried, well breaded and well seasoned. Another favourite dish of mine.

Kam Heong Crab
Lived up to the name of it. Adequate usage of dried shrimps to bring out the best of kam heong. Crabs were alright but were on the smaller size.

Those above mentioned dishes were actually the ready food. Good to serve your hungry stomach while waiting for your pot of steamboat to boil. As for the soup base, they were chicken, tom yam, herbal and soya to choose from.
Chicken and Tom Yam Flavour
The chicken soup base is pretty decent. However, the tom yam soup base is rather a let down as it was flavoured way too tangy.

Time to move to the open fridge to pick the choice of your fish balls and many other ingredients offered by the stall.
Pick your choice of the many fish balls

Just one each could make up a full plate

Sliced meat, fish and other seafood were catered as well

They are very generous with the ingredients

Different plate with different ingredients
Amongst my favourite was the Hokchiew fishball where it was stuffed with some pork meat within. Pork ball, sotong ball and vegetable ball made up the list of my favourites.

It is ready when the soup is boiling

Choices of sauce
I'm a bit disappointed with their sauces though. None of them appealed to my taste, not even the basic chili sauce.

A seafood lover you are? Don't worry because they have many type of seafood to compliment your steamboat.
Some of the clams and shell seafood

Fresh Meat Crab
Grab your piece before they are gone. Hot stuff! Please be gentle though and think of the rest.

Fresh water Prawn
The size are rather big and the meat is succulent. I like the part where they keep refilling them whenever it is emptied.

Steamboat should taste better if it is accompanied with some vegetables. And for this, the stall have at least 9 choices of vegetables for you to choose from.
Variety of vegetables

Just in case you want some noodles, they do prepared them for you as well. They even have the Udon noodles.
Assorted noodles

Being a person with sweet tooth, I'm rather particular with their offering on desserts. I must admit that I do enjoyed having their desserts a lot.
Tau Foo Fa Jelly
Tasted a bit flat though but did enough to persuade me for a few helpings.

King's Ice Cream
My personal favourite would be the Chocolate and Chocolate Mint Flavour.

You can take as many food as you want. But do remember that, always take within your consumption limit. It's always good to be prudent. Buffet are meant to be enjoyed.
Please avoid wastage

The ready food were all good and some of them were awesome. There were wide variety of steamboat ingredients and seafood to choose from as well. Coupled with a wide array of vegetables and noodles, it really spoil you for choices. Most important, they were all fresh.

The drawback would be the need to order the drinks on an extra surcharge. Apart from that, I must say that I really had a great time enjoying my buffet steamboat here.

Atmosphere: 5.5/10
Food: 7/10 (non-halal)
Price: 7/10
Verdict: Fried chicken boxing, Sui Kow and Wan Tan are those that you should not miss!

Baked Crab Seremban Seafood Village @ Seremban

One should not missed out having some crabs when happen to be in Seremban town. Seremban is not a fishing village nor a town that is near to any seashore, but there is a restaurant that serve their very renowned yummylicious baked crabs and other in-house signature dishes as well.

It is a standard practice for me, whenever we are on our way back to KL from Melaka, we will drop by this restaurant to get some crabs. And, for the previous trip down to Melaka, I do introduced this restaurant to my parents and Chee.
Seremban Seafood Village

This restaurant has been in operation for many years. If I'd manage to recall properly, it was my auntie who first brought me here when I was still a Form 3 kid.
Packed, even during the lunch time

If you are the type of person who likes chili sauce, be sure to try out their specially home made chili sauce.
In-house specialty chili sauce
The sauce is a blending of minced chili and garlic. Slightly spicy and tangy, it provides the extra kick for those who prefer a sharper taste on their food. Good to go with the meat, especially the crab!

Stir-fried lettuce (RM 8)

Fried Squids (RM 12)
While the coating offered a mild crisp, it however tasted very bland. Thankfully the in house chili sauce do some justice to the taste.

Thai-styled Chicken (RM 10)
Breaded chicken thigh are deep fried before being drizzled with the sweet and sour sauce gravy. Garnished with sliced cucumbers, onions and sesame seed. A signature dish that is good even on it's own. Fans of sweet and sour taste will love it!

Claypot Tau Foo (RM 12)
Decent in taste and goes well with the rice.

And just like the usual practice, the crab will always be served as the last dish. After 35 minutes, two crabs which weighted in a total of about a kilo was served to our table.
Seremban Seafood Village Baked Crab (RM 48 per kilo)
The premium signature dish of the restaurant. Every table will definitely have this crab on it. The shell of the crab is spread with some sauce which resembles the taste of marmite. The sauce tasted slightly salty with some hint of the aromatic burnt smell-appetizing your taste bud before the crab meat experience.

Succulent and juicy meat
It was baked to perfection, maintaining the pure sweetness of the crab meat. The crab meat was succulent and juicy too, what a way to savour a crab! This is the time where words are not enough to express how delicious the crab was.

The total bill came to RM 96.20 which inclusive of rice and drinks. I suppose the price is reasonable taking into account that we do have the huge meaty crab as one of the dish.

Claypot Tau Foo: 5.5/10
