Movida Grand Opening Party @ Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara [23rd April 2010]

There was this new club cum pub that just opened not too long ago at the happening hub of Sunway Giza. Named as the Movida, the grand lauch of the club was held in last April.

I received an invitation from my friend to join the grand launch of the club. I was a little reluctant since I toned down on alcohol a lot but in the end decided to join at the last minute to see what the launch had to offer. Since I already visited this place with my cousins weeks ago before the grand launch, it is good to check out how much they've improved.

I reached the place at 8.45 pm and it was so darn crowded! I had a hard time trying enter the premise what's more to grab some of the food offered.
Crowds busy getting the food

Dance or band performance are typical show during a launch, but it was my really first time seeing a lion dance performance at a club.

After the lion dance performance ended, I was greeted by those models of the launch to drop some words for Movida.

Dropping a signature!

My signature of congratulatory!

Grand launch is always accompanied by free flow of alcoholic drinks. Thirsty I was, I headed to the station which was serving free beers. As usual, beer always had a good reception amongst the crowd, so I know I need to be a little patience to queue up for my beer.

I was being hopeful at first, but after some 15 minutes of queuing, I still did not get my share of beer. The queue was moving extremely slow. A check at the station showed that the bar tender sometimes passed those free beers to other people who did not queue. What pissed me off even more was that he passed them in jugs rather than mug! Ultimate frustration on such a crappy system!
Crappy serving time of beer!

After more than 20 minutes of queuing up, I still yet to get a mug of beer. I gave up and proceeded to the inner premise of Movida! Since the span area were not huge, it required some task to get to the back of the bar which serves free cocktails. I'd managed to sneak my way through and I was thankful that I did get my cocktail after just minutes of wait.
A full house Movida

Later on, I was invited to the VIP area which was on the upper floor of the club. It was way a lot better, as it was less packed and I get my free beer in jugs rather than mug. Now this is what I call free flow!

On that night, it was just too packed for even some movement what's more for dancing. The free flow ended at 10.30pm and whilst I did bumped into some old friends of mine, I did not stayed up there long. Overall, I wouldn't say the grand launch was that grand. Only if they'd monitored the free flow station a little better to reduce the frustration among the crowd..

Cleopatra Inauguration Party @ The Opera Club, Sunway Pyramid [20th May 2010]

A new club it is, The Opera Club located in Sunway Pyramid has been introducing and marketing many themed nights. One of it was the Cleopatra Night inauguration party which was recently held .

Cleopatra Night is a new themed night of The Opera that will be held on every Thursday night catered especially to those college students.

The privileges on a Cleopatra Night

Whilst I've been toning down a lot on the clubbing activities, sometimes it is just hard to resist the temptation of invitation to a free flow session. What's more when you are free and have the companion of Hock Beng and Michael. So, let's go!

Fancy their costume?

We were greeted by free flows of cocktails and beer. It was easy to get glasses of cocktails with the waiter serving around. However, you might need to queue a little to get your free glass of beer. Kudos to the management team because the queue were organized and every one was seen happy with their free share.
Free flow of cocktails and beer

The first show of the night were the Cleopatra dance I supposed, with a woman clad in a modified version of sari dancing with another woman in their in-house Cleopatra designed costume.

Went for another round of beer while waiting for Hock Beng and another show performance.
My initial !=)

By 9.30pm another performance was up. Named the Fire Dance, it was actually quite a fiery one. You can actually feel the heat from the flaming sticks.
Fire Dance

The dance was alright but the quality of a performer was a let down. I believed one of the performer was actually a transsexual, a not so fully transformed yet!

Only the 3 of us for the night

Interested with the Cleopatra Theme and privileges? Just remember that it is held on every Thursday night from 8pm onwards to late, only at The Opera, Sunway Pyramid!

Roaring Tiger Year Day 8 @ ROM & Becky's Place [21st Feb 2010]

It was on the Sunday, the eighth day of the Tiger year. I woke up around 10am, had some breakfast before getting ready for to witness the registration of marriage between my cousin sister and her boyfriend. This memorable event took place at Sri Mahavihara Buddhist temple located in Brickfields. I was with Chee, and seriously it took us rounding a while before we finally able to locate the temple.

We were half an hour early before the ceremony kicks in. At about 1.45pm, my cousin sister arrived together with her family members. The swearing in ceremony started at about 2pm.

Congratulations to both of you!=)

After the swearing in ceremony, there were some blessing ceremony by the monk there. I had some blessing and prayer too before leaving the place at 3.30pm. Congratulations to my Uncle and Auntie too on the memorable event. Not forgetting, thanking Chee for spending his precious time snapping wonderful pictures during the ceremony.

I reached home about 4pm, and too a quick shower knowing that Wern Ching were waiting with Aik Chung outside my place before headed to Taman Prima, somewhere in Sepang for Becky's mini open house.
Becky's sweet home

We were the first few that arrived and Becky was still seemed to be in the dreamland with her watery eyes. I supposed she just woke up or perhaps was touched by our arrival. Anyway, she handed us a few can of Shandy's before she went to dress herself.
Blackcurrant Anglia Shandy
Odd taste compared to the original Shandy. Epic fail.

I was so hungry because I did not took my lunch. Thankfully, it was not too long before a platter of grilled chicken wing fresh from the oven was ready on the table.
Grilled Chicken Wing
The first batch of this chicken wing was so good. It was so well seasoned and infused with the special marination by Becky. We did tried to ask for the recipe, and she unselfishly shared with us. But after hearing that, it was not an easy task, especially with the ingredients involved and I would just prefer to bug her to prepare instead when I crave for it.

Next, we had hot dog sandwiches. Time to make your own sandwich!
Pick your own ingredients

My Hot Dog Sandwich
They said from the look, it doesn't taste good, but I chose to ignore them because for me, it tasted good and that what matters the most. Haha, sorry, you guys could not spoil my appetite for it.

Potato Gratin
Becky, you need to do extra homework the next time you prepare this. Honestly, this was the least food that I liked for that day.

Otak-Otak Samosa
Deep fried food is unhealthy, but we leave that aside because it will be a sin not to indulge into this yummylicious Samosa. So good, when it was consumed hot!

If you thought the food was enough for the seven of us, then you are wrong, because at Becky's place, the food just can't stop coming. I was already kinda full before another dish specially prepared by her Mum came to the table.
Special Fried Bee Hoon
Tasted really nice in a special way. For me, the taste was a blending style of Thai, Siam and Nyonya. Obviously, the Bee Hoon texture was perfect.

Tom Yum Soup?
It was not a soup, but gravy for the Bee Hoon for some extra flavour and sogginess.

Dessert time! This time we weree lucky to try out someone's bakery skill.
Isky's Raspberry Cheese Cake V2
This was his second time baking cheese cake. That really wowed me, because for the second time, it was already that good. The only area to improve on was on the cheese layer that was too soft. Have you done your V3 already?

The open house was not just about eating, but also involved some board game session. This time round, we had the Big Taboo, a combination of taboo, pictionary, actionary and even the Elmo doll! It does sound complicated, but once you get a hang of it, you will be alright. It took me a quite a while though to have a hang of it.
The Big Taboo

Obviously, Eliz did better in this game since it was not a total Pictionary. And the award of best Emo mimicker gotta go to Isky.
During the board game session

Unfortunately, we did not able to finish the game because Eliz needed to rush home for a dinner. We left Becky's place at about 8pm. It was an enjoyable session, and thank you Becky for the invitation! When should be the next meet up?

For the night session, I was in Klang to witness the never seem to end fireworks display in Klang in conjunction with the Tee Kung Festival (God of Sky).
Non-stop fireworks

Reached home about 3am after having some supper at Sunway. That pretty much summed up my activities on the eighth day of the Tiger Year. Hopefully Tee Kung will bless us for a better year ahead.

Aesthetics Magazine Launch @ The Opera [28th Jan 2010]

There was event happening at the Opera again barely after a month of it's soft launch. This time round, it was the launching of the Aes.thet.ics magazine. Free flow of drinks and foods were served from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.
Aesthetics?

The magazine cover was really aesthetic, living up to the name of the magazine itself. Happenings in the town, lifestyle, fashion to beauty products were the main content of the magazine. It is no surprise that the targeted readers of the magazine was meant for the teenagers to young adults. Best of all, it is FREE!
The aes-thet-ics Magazine

Just like the previous soft launch, we needed to text our information and showed the reply code to the bouncer to gain entry to the event.
Time to SMS

Wern Ching jie, Michael and I reached there as early as 8pm. And with the usual practice of typical Malaysian, the arena was still quite empty.
Crowd has yet to turn up

There were many waiter walking around, serving bottomless drinks to the crowds. We grabbed a few extra drinks for our friends which has yet to turn up.
Whiskey, Vodka and Rum were served for the night

There were food being served too by the waiter, but I would rather callled them snacks.
Biscuits with condiments

About half an hour later, Hock Beng arrived and shortly they were a circus acrobatic show performed by a Chinese gymnast.
Now, this is called flexibility

Cheers man!

Some radio Dee-Jays invited to grace the event

By 9pm, the crowds were getting larger and you could sense the atmosphere was heating up and amplified with noises.

Don't you think you were lucky jie? Haha.

We lingered till 10.30pm before we went for supper at the nearby Ming Tien stall. We didn't really drink much even though they were plenty of drinks catered to us.
The Fantabulous Four

One thing for sure, the free copy of the magazine was worth reading if you are a person that would like to keep track of the happenings in the town. Be sure to grab your free copy the next time you are in any club or lounge.
