Mcdonald's Malaysia Free Big Breakfast Promotion @ Sunway Mentari

Hello again readers. First of all, I would like thank you guys for the continuous support shown to my blog even though the blog has been in cold storage for quite a while. It's not that I have lose out the interest in blogging, but the fact is that I'm really busy with my work and I sincerely apologize for the lack of updates.

Before I continued on where I left from my previous post, there is a breakfast feast going on in Malaysia. Mcdonald's Malaysia is rewarding the whole Malaysian 2 sets of Big Breakfast to show their appreciation in bagging the Gold Putra Brand Award for the second consecutive year. To redeem, just present the coupon and spend RM 5 above in a single receipt at any Mcdonald's breakfast serving outlet from 15th March to 31st March 2011.
The 2 Free Big Breakfast coupon
Get it from the Mcdonald's promoters or simply print them from the Mcdonald's facebook fan page.

My first redemption of the big breakfast happened last week at Mcdonald's Sunway Mentari when I stayed up to the wee hours for work purposes. I have heard that people been queuing up all the way to the entrance during the peak time from 6.30am to 11am, so I thought going there to redeem at 4 in the morning would be the best choice.
Mcdonald's Sunway Mentari Business Park

As expected, the crowd has not shown up yet. I've got no complain at all as I did not need to queue up to have my orders ready.
The scene at 4am

To redeem the big breakfast, I ordered two sets of Mcdonald's Weekday Special (W4) in which each set consist of a Sausage Mcmuffin and a cup of Arabic hot coffee.
W4: Sausage Mcmuffin (RM 4.50 per set)

Here's the 2 set of free big breakfast when you spend above RM 5 at any Mcdonald's breakfast serving outlet.
Who doesn't like 2 sets of free big breakfast?

A big breakfast set consists of hash brown, 2 slices of muffin, a slice of grilled chicken sausage and scramble eggs.
Mcdonald's Big Breakfast Set (NP: RM 6.90 per set)
While the scrambled eggs and the sausages are pretty normal, the toasted muffins deserved mentioning for it's crisp exterior while maintaining a soft texture bite. The hash brown were just as great with a mushy bite of real potatoes.

You can have your own mixture of orders to top the bill to RM 5 and above. As for me, I think the most value for money to redeem the big breakfast is to order two sets of Sausage Mcmuffin (W4). Not only that you get 2 cup of tea or coffee, you will also get another two Sausage Mcmuffin. Now, isn't that sharing is caring?
Everything here costs only Rm 8.50 after tax

There are 2 more days left before this promotion runs out. Hurry up to your nearest Mcdonald's to grab some free big breakfast. To avoid queuing up long, the advisable time to grab your big breakfast will be from 4am to 6.30am. Unless you are ready to queue for at least 45 minutes to grab a breakfast, it is advisable to avoid the period of time from 6.30am to 11am whilst this promotion is still ongoing.

I have already redeemed the big breakfast four times. Suddenly, I realized that I'm leading a healthy lifestyle by having breakfast so early in the morning, all thanks to Mcdonalds.

Thank you so much Mcdonald's Malaysia for your generous offer to show your appreciation to us Malaysian towards our support to you.

Food: 7/10
Price: 10/10
Verdict: You would not get any cheaper breakfast promotion than this.

Location: Any Mcdonald's breakfast serving outlet in Malaysia

*This promotion has ended on 31st March 2011.

Homi Chicken Curry Puff @ The Gardens, Mid Valley City

Chicken curry puff is a local delicacy that consisted of curry fillings within a deep fried pastry shell. From smaller size to the bigger size, cheaper to those being more expensive one, my favourite curry chicken puff is still Homi Chicken Curry Puff.

For those SS 2 folks and loyal customers, they should have know that this Homi Chicken Puff is being sold over a stall located at Hock Seng Coffee Shop, just right opposite of KFC restaurant. Just recently, I realized that Homi Chicken Curry Puff is being sold over at The Gardens, Mid Valley City as well. Being curious, I decided to get some of the curry puff to check the validity and the authenticity it.
Homi Chicken Curry Puff, The Gardens

A check with the counter showed that the curry puff is being sold at RM 2 each. At the time of my visit, it was after 8pm and hence I was entitled to a 25 % discount off from the normal price.
25 % off for 8pm onwards = RM 1.50 each

From the huge and layered physical appearance, I'm pretty sure the curry puff are similar to those that are being sold in SS 2
Huge and layered physical appearance
The shell was very crispy on the outside while being fluffy in the inside.

Thick and flavourful curry
Upon each bite, you can taste the buttery fragrant lingering in your mouth that followed swiftly by the thick and flavourful juicy potatoes.

Generous fillings that consisted of potatoes and diced chicken meat
Not only that, it comes with a very generous fillings that will be sure to smack your lips good.

After trying it out, I can conclude that the Homi curry puff in The Gardens is similar with the one being sold at SS 2. Obviously the one being sold here is slightly more pricey due to the higher rental expenses. However, if you happened to be at Mid Valley City and are craving for some curry puff, do try them out and I can assure you of a memorable taste of chicken curry puff!

Chicken Curry Puff: 8/10

Price: 6/10
Verdict: My all time favourite chicken curry puff!

Tang House of Fishball Happy Hour @ Sea Park, Petaling Jaya

If you think that only beer has happy hour, you might wanna rethink again. Happening only in Malaysia perhaps, there is a noodle shop offering selected food at happy hours price.

The shop which I was referring to is Tang House of Fishball which claimed to serve 60's Teow Chew fishball. Located at the shop lots of Sea Park (the same row as KFC restaurant), it offers happy hours food from 9.30pm to 11pm daily. The price during the happy hours is actually 30% - 50% off the normal price.
Tang House of Fishball

The premise is decently renovated and it is fully air-conditioned. So no worries about the humid and hot weather when having your bowl of noodles here.
Decent ambiance

Bean Curd Skin and Barley Dessert (RM 2)

Home Land Mee Dry (RM 3.80 per bowl)
A very much resemblance of the Hakka noodles apart from the extra slices of fish cake. It was decent but nothing really to shout about.

The noodles did come with a complimentary soup with fish balls.
Complimentary fish ball in soup
The fish ball deserved some mentioning as it tasted pure with fish paste. It was neither too soft nor spongy, unlike those typical fish ball that you had in those normal fish ball stall.

Soup Noodle (RM 3.80 per bowl)
I find the soup base a little too salty. Even the bland taste of the flat noodles could not reduced the saltiness of the soup.

Besides noodles, they served other finger and fried food as well.
Fried Dumpling (RM 0.80 per piece)
No doubt it was freshly fried, however, it cannot make up the disappointment in taste. Consisted just purely fish paste and some diced veges, it could have beeen better should there is some shrimps and pork.

Fried Fish Cake (RM 2.50 per whole piece)
Spongy and full with the fragrant of fish paste, I could not find any reason for not loving this!

The total bill came to RM 16.10 inclusive of the drink. I supposed the price is very decent judging from the food quality and the ambiance of the place. They have other food to offer during the normal business hours but obviously, I'd only visited this place during the happy hour promotion time. I always believe that why pay more when you can pay less!

Atmosphere: 5.5/10
Food: 6/10 (non-halal)
Price: 6/10
Verdict: Be sure to grab the happy hour deal from 9.30 pm -11 pm daily.

Restoran Xi Yang Yang Sdn Bhd @ Sunway Mentari Business Park, PJ

With the current economic state still has not fully recovered from the credit crunch, many restaurants and even stalls has been slashing their profit margins to lure more customers. Besides giving discount, set meals is one of the many way that operators implement to provide a better value money to the consumers.

One of the Chinese restaurant having such practice is Restoran Xi Yang Yang in Sunway Mentari Business Park. Being the newest restaurant in the region, it offers some set meals at an unbeatable and unbelievable price.
Restoran Xi Yang Yang

An air-conditioned stall

The promotion of set meals that they are having now is as stated on the brochure.
Believe your eyes, it is that cheap!

I chose to have the Rm 22.90 set which consisted of a steamed fish, sweet sour pork, a fried vegetable and a soup. After 25 minutes of wait, the first dish that was served to me was the soup. Initially I thought that they would be serving the soup in the size of a rice bowl. So wrong I was, that in fact the soup was served in a medium sized clay pot!
Vegetable soup

You can choose your choice of soup. If you don't fancy the vegetable soup, just remember to ask for their choices of soup for the day when you are placing an order.
Seaweed soup
The soup came with the accompaniment of squids and pork fillets. Adequately flavoured with some kick of sweetness. I highly recommend this soup if you are a fan of seaweed.

Next came the sweet and sour pork dish.
Sweet and Sour Pork
I believe the breaded pork were freshly fried as it offered some mild crisp on the outside. Gravy were in the right proportion of sweet and sour taste as well.

As for the vegetables, you may too ask for the choices available. At my time of visit, I was recommended to take the baby kailan.
Stir-fried Baby Kailan
The baby kailan were so fresh that you can actually taste the sweetness of it. Hint of wok hei were tasted too.

I ordered the steamed version of the tilapia fish. When it was presented to my table, I was so surprise to note that:
1. Whole fish was served to me.
2. The fish weight at least 600g.
3. And, I eventually noticed that those tilapia fish were still alive and swimming in the tank!
Steamed Tilapia Fish in Sweet and Sour sauce
The meat was white, juicy and no hint of fishy smell. There were some part where the fish meat was tender. The gravy was well flavoured too, providing a great coating to the fish.

When placing the order, I'd ordered an a la carte plate of fried squids because I thought the portion of the food from the set will be small.
Fried Squid (RM 15)
Well fried and it offered some mild crisp on the outisde. However, it was let down by the taste and flavour of it.

When you have finished your dinner, they will compliment you with a platter of mixed fruits. At that point of time, I think that the meal is even more value to money!
Mixed fruits

I was persuaded by their manager Mr. Alex to try out their herbal jelly dessert.
Herbal Jelly dessert a.k.a Guillingao (RM 3.80)
Great stuff! The jelly were smooth and silky too! I like the sweetness accompanied with the bitterness that sets to linger in your mouth.

The stall do offer fried noodles and other seafood dishes as well. The promotion set meals is still running and it is still unknown on when it will end. So hurry up to this stall to try out their dish before the promotion ends! Seriously, you cannot get cheaper set meals of this kind at any other place.

Atmosphere: 5.5/10
Food: 6/10 (non-halal)
Price: 10/10
Verdict: The promotion set meals are just too value to the money!

Fried Chicken & Sushi @ Jusco Sunway Pyramid

I have always liked Jusco as one of my preferred shopping outlet for groceries. Apart from that, their food and beverages corner appeals to me too. But the most appealing part were the discounts given after 8pm, particularly to clear the left over for the night. Discounts were huge, ranging from 20% - 30% of normal price.

There was a corner selling those fried stuff. Sometimes when I'm in Jusco at the particular time, I will do some searching to look for some bargains for my favourite fried stuff.
30 % discount off normal price

Fried Chicken
RM 1.26 for 2 chicken thighs after discount. Isn't this very cheap? The taste obviously were not that great, but where can you get it as cheap as this.

Another Jusco corner that I'd always pay a visit to was the Sushi Corner.
20 % discount after 9pm

A platter of mixed Sushi
Consists of temaki roll, maki and some other sushi. They were still very fresh and for the price of RM 6.30 after the discount, it make this platter irresistible when I'm in Jusco during the discount time.

My favourite sushi at Jusco Sushi
Tuna and Salmon sandwich fillings (RM 0.96 each after 20 % discount) are always my automatic choice. The sashimi salmon (RM 1.20 each after 20 % discount) are in my pick as well, only if they are still available because it sells like hot cakes during the discount time.

Well, these are the food that I usually get myself into when I'm alone and when doing some groceries shopping at Jusco. At less than RM 10, it easily fills up my stomach and satisfies my craving for sushi and fried stuff. Don't you just love decent food at a discounted reasonable price? I do!=)
