Joseph Kitchen @ Menara UOA, Bangsar

The online vouchers craze has hit the Malaysians mid of last year and had been growing steadily ever since. At the very beginning, I was skeptical to purchase those online vouchers, simply because I was in doubt as some of the deals are too good to be true.

Everything has it's first time. My first purchase was of online vouchers was back in March with MyDEAL, one of the few online voucher portal in Malaysia. The deal entitled me to redeem a 3 course set meal at Joseph @ Kitchen Cafe located in Menara UOA at Bangsar.
Joseph @Kitchen, Menara UOA Bangsar

The cafe isn't very big but the setting are rather spacious and cozy, offering a relaxed ambiance for those who dine in or even a coffee break.
Little place but a cozy atmosphere

The redemption of the 3 course set meal includes an appetizer, a main course and a dessert to be chosen from the menu specially cater for MyDEAL customers. The deal also includes a free flow of drinks with a choice of ice lemon tea or fruit juice.
Exclusive menu for MyDEAL customers

Ice Lemon Tea
The first serving came alright but the eventual servings were slightly diluted. Well, it's free flow, so I've got no complain but the eventual servings could have been better.

Next, came the appetizer.
Italian's Ball Platter (RM 12 per platter)
Homemade fried cheesy meat balls and potatoes with shrimp.
The meat balls were not as cheesy as claimed by it's description. The potatoes with shrimp meanwhile tasted very ordinary, where it features potato strips coating the near to tasteless shrimp.

Creamy White Mushroom (RM 8)
Stir fried white button mushroom, onions with creamy white sauces and topped with almond flakes and herb. Our second appetizer and this was the bomb! The white button mushrooms were so juicy and blends well with the thick creamy white sauces. The hint fragrance from the almond flakes is like icing on the cake.

The main course came shortly after the appetizers were served.
Carbonara (RM 14)
Creamy white sauce with turkey strips and egg.
Wonderful carbonara, just the perfect flavour and the sauce thickness that I wanted in a good carbonara. Two thumbs up!

Grilled Lamb Chop (RM 15)
Grilled lamb shoulder with black pepper sauce that is served with salad and fries.
The lamb were rightly cooked to my liking as it resulted to a tender and juicy meat. The black pepper sauce were as great, offering a real thick and pepperish flavour to the already well marinated lamb chop. The only downside of this is that the serving of the lamb chop are rather small.

Creme Brulee
Zoe ordered this as her dessert. I don't really fancy this dessert as I find it too sweet for my liking. All I can say is that, the experience of it is like having a pudding with melted sugar as the icing on top. Sounds very sweet, isn't it?

Banana Split
A rather very ordinary dessert that is not helped by the bland taste of the ice cream.

Me and Zoe enjoying our deal at Joseph Kitchen, Menara UOA Bangsar

I reckoned the deal was pretty a steal considering the quality of the food that we had and as well as the bottomless drinks which includes the choice of fruit juice (though a little diluted).

For the deal, we paid a total of RM 39.80 for two online vouchers which entitle us to a two set redemption. Total savings from the deal was RM 40 (RM 79.80 - RM 39.80). It has been sometimes since I last had some western food as good as this, and Joseph @ Kitchen certainly does worth a revisit.

*Price shown in the pictures above are at normal price.

Cheapest Beer Tower Restaurant Piccadilly @ Millennium Square, PJ

When we talked chilling out, we always linked them to beers. However, as much as I love beer, I find the beer pricing in Malaysia is way too expensive and not worth for the price of what we are paying for. Instead, I would always prefer to have cocktails or sharing some bottles with friends.

However, there is a restaurant cum cafe lied somewhere deep in the residential area of Asia Jaya that offers beer at a very very reasonable price. It was located at Millenium Square, a square where towers of high rise condominiums seen scrapping the sky above.

The spanned area was huge, taking up almost the whole square with seats and chairs being arranged along the walkway.
Along the walkway of the square

Alright, so how much do you paid for a jug of beer usually? The best price I ever paid for was RM 29 per jug, and that was during the happy hour time. Can you believe that this place actually sell a tower of Beer at only RM 50? Yes, it's RM 50, with no terms and conditions applied, and best of all it is all night long!
A Carlsberg Tower (RM 50)

I was with Eddie, when we needed some beer badly due to the soaring temperature during the Chinese New Year. The best part about ordering a tower of beer was that it gave you a chance to draft your own beer while maintaining the coldness of the beer.
Self-service

Nothing beats the beer during the hot weather!
Prosperity beer

There were a wide range of food to choose from should you want to munch something or even to satisfy your hungriness. I did ordered a bowl of Tom Yam soup to cure my craving for some spicy soup.
Seafood Tom Yum (RM 4.90)
It was full with flavour. This was exactly the Tom Yum that fitted my taste bud perfectly. It was so good that I just couldn't stop sipping upon sip. Together with their generous portion of ingredients, it just made my day.

After the fantastic Tom Yum soup, I couldn't resist but to order another plate of fried udon.
Fried Seafood Udon (RM 6.90)
I find it a little salty. It should be better if it were lighter with salt. There were some hint of wok hei. The portion was decent and seriously you couldn't get any fried udon that of this price.

Eddie and I had difficulty finishing the tower even though we were craving for it badly. There were still some left in the tower, but I guess this is the best we could.
Finally, we have done it!

The total bill came to RM 68 inclusive of 10% service charge. Honestly, where can you find such a great food with very cheap beer tower at such a decent atmosphere. The answer is here for you.

Tom Yum Soup : 8/10
Fried Seafood Udon : 6/10

Atmosphere: 6/10

Price: 8/10
Verdict: The cheapest beer tower in town!

Asia Cafe Dining with Sister @ SS15/8A, Subang Jaya

When someone mentioned about Asia Cafe, the thought of food will crossed the mind. This is because Asia Cafe has plenty choices of food to offer, ranging from rice, noodles, chops to sushi. There were a mass participation of hawker stalls and tt could easily reached more than 100 varieties of food with each stall offering at least 5 different variety.

Before you start venturing for food, the usually efficient waiter will be there to take your order for the beverages first.
Jumbo Size Honey Dew Juice (RM 5.50)
They have plenty of drinks to offer but I always stick to their fresh juices even though it was a little bit diluted. Reason was simple, because I dislike reordering drinks and usually a jumbo size juice will do me the night.

They were only 4 of us for the night. So we can't really order that much. Isky was struck by some pizza craving and there was this stall to satisfy him.
Pizza Brava

Hawaiian Chicken Ham Pizza (RM 13 for medium size)
The dough tasted very fresh. But the best part was the fragrance of the wood that lingers in your mouth upon each bite on the pizza, making it very country-tasting.

Becky arrived shortly and she ordered a bowl of duck drumstick as her dinner.

Duck Drumstick Mee Suah(RM 5.50)
Becky didn't like it. She poured some soya sauce into the soup to make it better. However, I find the soup tasted worse as it was saltier after the pouring of soya sauce.

I was still craving for some crab after the disastrous crab tasting in Pulau Ketam.
This is the shop that I always ordered the crab from because of their decent pricing and taste.

Kam Heong Crab (RM 15 for 1 1/2 crab)
Not the best Kam Heong I have eaten but at least it tasted decent. It was slightly oily though but the presence of Kam Heong taste can be tasted. At it's price, there were nothing much I could complain further. Finally, got back my memories on how a crab should taste like after the crappy crab preparation at Pulau Ketam, and this is what I called Kam Heong.

Isky went for second helping as the pizza was not enough for him, thanks to us that stole some pieces off him.
The western stall that has a lot of variety to offer and it is not just an ordinary western stall. I have tried their food here before and honestly it was not the best. But for the price and at the above average taste that you get, you really will have this stall in mind when you were craving for some chops.

Lamb Shoulder Chop (RM 14.90)
Isky's second helping. He finished them up without wasting and I suppose it's an indirect way of telling us it was good.

Becky wanted to try something else since her previous order was not satisfying.

So there she went to order a plate of Char Koay Teow which she told me that many claimed it was good.
Fried Koay Teow (RM 5)
It was not flavourful enough but somehow it did enough for me to continue eating it. We have no problem finishing it, but the main problem was the price tag of it! We were stoned when the waiter was asking RM 5 from us for this tiny little place of Fried Koay Teow.

That's all we had for the night. Definitely there will be a chance for me in the near future to be back here to indulge in other delicacies.

Hawaiian Chicken Ham Pizza: 7/10
Duck Drumstick Mee Suah: 4/10
Kam Heong Crab: 6/10
Lamb Shoulder Chop: 6.5/10
Fried Koay Teow: 5/10

Atmosphere: 7/10

Price: 6/10
Verdict: A place to be if you are looking for a food feast on the table with different type of decent food.

Yippee Cup @ SS 2, Petaling Jaya

When we were almost done with our shopping, Kien Wai received a call from Sai Chuen saying that he and See Mun will join us for some drinks. I suggested SS 2 and Damansara area since we will passed by that area on our way home.

All of us agreed on SS2. Sai Chuen was so enthusiastic about this place particularly called Yippee Cup. The name itself sound interesting and I was told that Sai Chuen himself do frequent this place once a while for yam cha. Apparently, it has been around for quite some times but I have yet to visit them.

We moved from the air-conditioned area to the open air area because it was too stuffy in the air-conditioned. Though there were no air-condition, the air ventilation was definitely much better.

Mango Yogurt (RM 7.90)
Ice blended mango smoothies with yogurt milk. It was decent as the blended ice were very fine and the fragrant of mango was strong.

Strawberry Yogurt (RM 7.90)
Ice blended strawberry smoothies with yogurt milk. Personally, I like this drink a lot as the yogurt milk blends well with the strawberry taste making this drink tasted sour, sweet and in a very sexy way. My pick of the night.

Lemon Juice with Pearl (RM 6)
Tasted way too sour. My first sip reaction was "Am I sipping on some vinegar?"

Original Yippee Milk Tea with Pearl (RM 6)
A very ordinary milk tea with some added pearl. A little bit diluted and would prefer it to be a little bit milkier and thick though. Not that yippee after all.

Cheezy Hotdog (RM 4.30)
Cheese hot dog that were wrapped with a layer of crispy bread. The mixture ended up in a weird taste. Even See Mun, took off the bread and just ate the sausages alone.

Chicken Ipoh Hor Fun (RM 4.50)
The soup tasted very bland and the whole bowl smelled like a raw "hor fun". The chicken meat were very dry and tasteless. Just for your curiosity, this is how a hospital Chicken Hor Fun taste like. Please do not mislead Ipoh Hor Fun.

Fish Cake Noodle (RM 5.90)
Another one that they claimed is their signature dish with the best signage. The hor fun and the bean sprout smelled and tasted raw. The gravy used was horribly bland and tasteless. The whole plate was awful and I gave up after eating less than half of it. If this is their best, I would named my home cooked Indo Mee as the bestest.

They do offer some board games such like monopoly, chess and mahjong for leisure. However, this is just not a place that worth for a second visit unless you love deafening atmosphere, stuffy environment and awful food.

Atmosphere: 4/10
Food: 3/10
Price: 5/10
Verdict: A yucky feeling after trying out their food! Just pathetic!

Location: Cornet lot, SS2, the same shop lots row as the famous Hoppy Duck Rice shop.

Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert Secrets @ SS15, Subang Jaya

Eddie is back to Kuala Lumpur for a short break, finally, after long duration of stay in Sabah. He came to find me for a dinner and after that I decided to bring him for some special desserts at Snowflake. I love desserts and obviously I missed this place.
This is my 2nd time being here. I was initially being introduced to this place by Guek Mei somewhere last year. At that time, I was wondering how great can a dessert be?

The UFO device
Since this stall operates on a self-service basis, this device is given to you upon after your orders from the counter. Wondering what is the purpose of this device?

The red shining LED
The device will vibrates and the LED lights will keep blinking. Now you know that your desserts is ready to be collected from the counter.

Grass Jelly Series (RM 5.50)
This dessert comes with ice flakes that were well infused with grass jelly flavour, generous servings of taro balls, grass jelly and pearl bubble. The ice flakes were unbelievably smooth, and it melts in your mouth. However, I find this dessert a little bit too sweet, but it should satisfies a lot people since this is their Best Seller for cold desserts.

Soya Series (RM 4.90)
This bowl comes with ice flakes that were well infused with soya milk, garnished with red beans, grass jelly, yam and pearl bubble. Just like others ice series, the ice flakes were unbelievably smooth and melts in your mouth. The sweetness of the ice flakes blends well with other condiments, very much to my liking. Since, I love soya milk, this dessert got to be my pick whenever I patronize this stall.

The ingredients were all very fresh and greatly prepared. The stall serves a a lot other more desserts and drinks such as Pearl Bubble drinks and other ice flakes dessert. I have tried their Lemon Jelly dessert and it tasted alright. However, I will still stick to my Ice Series dessert.

Atmosphere: 5/10
Food: 7.5/10
Price: 6/10
Verdict: It will be sure to sweeten your stressful life!

Location: The shop lots opposite of Asia Cafe, Subang, the same row as The Pizza Hut. There is another branch located in The Pavillion Shopping Mall.

Pre X-Mas Dinner with PRians @ Delicious Cafe, Mid Valley [18th Dec 2009]

A dinner was called upon to be at 8pm. I reached Mid Valley about 7.30pm and I gave Nai Shan a ring to ask her whereabout. I was surprise that she together with Phui Shan has arrived.

I told them I will meet them at Alexis. I was looking around for Alexis, still can't find. Then I heard someone calling my name. It was Phui Shan together wit Mei Mei in the premium tea shop, shopping for tea. How coincidental can it be? Mei Mei looked very drained. Hope she will be alright real soon.

We walked around and pit stoped at the Borders while waiting for the rest. Phillip arrived first, followed by King and eventually being joined by Nai Shan and Quennie.

We were forced to forgo Alexis since they do not have place for us inside the shop and we refused to sit outside. We checked out Delicious, but it was full as well, so we decided to hang around the Centre Court of Mid Valley. The surroundings were pretty with the decorations. Eventually, Curian turned up.

It was almost 9pm when we finally manage to get a table to dine at Delicious. I did not enjoy the dinner, thanks to the pasta that I ordered doesn't blends well with my taste bud.

Delicious Cafe @ Mid Valley
First time dining here, don't really think the food was superb. Perhaps, it is not my liking or did I ordered the wrong one?

Fried Fish Cake @ Delicious Cafe, Mid Valley
The fish cake are way too oily. Taste wise, very average.

Thai Style Crab Meat Spaghetti @ Delicious Cafe, Mid Valley
Too much of herb leaves, resulted in a very strong herbal aroma. Tasted very bland. Cannot taste the presence of crab meat. Any instant noodle taste better than this.

Carbonara Chicken Spaghetti @ Delicious Mid Valley
Tasted like an average carbonara sauced spaghetti. Anything else to comment?

Duck Spaghetti@ Delicious Mid Valley
I find the taste is uniquely good. This deserve some credit for it's taste. My verdict is slightly above average.

Fizzy Lemon @ Delicious Cafe, Mid Valley
Tasteless. It is just a mixture of Soda water and lemon. Even after adding sugar syrup to it, the drink still tasted very flat. Poor Mei Mei, I guess you would love 7-up more.

I love Kl~yes, I do..

This is crazy..

Washroom @ the Gardens
Worth paying for RM 5?

We headed back to the Gardens, with the intention to catch up with Jeff and Sandy. They eventually finished their Avatar at when it's almost Midnight. Catch up a while and all of us dispersed respectively.

The familiar suspects..

Phui Shan fetched me home and oh well, she accidentally understeered on a corner and resulted in minor scratches to her Merz. Ouch=.=

Guess I won't be seeing you all anytime soon til the next year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you guys=)
