Hok Seng Steamboat Buffet @ Sunway Mentari Business Park, PJ

If one mentioned about Sunway Mentari, there is no doubt that it will trigger someone to think of steamboat buffet. Steamboat buffet around Sunway Mentari has been mushrooming for the past few years. With more than 10 choices around, every stall operator need to come out with fresh ideas to lure the customers.

One of the latest addition to the Sunway Mentari steamboat stall is the Hok Seng Steamboat. Located at the new Sunway Mentari Business Park Phase 2, this stall allowed you to have a steamboat buffet at the price of RM 23.80 per pax.

The stall is nicely renovated with great setup and lighting. A very welcoming ambiance indeed for you to enjoy the steamboat.
Welcoming ambiance

Upon seated, you will be served with a bowl of chicken soup as an appetizer.
Chicken soup
The soup is quite similar to the shark fin soup. Starchy, but this one consisted of a lot of chicken meat instead of shark fin and crab meat. No complain on the taste though.

Marmite Chicken Wing
One of their specialty dish. Wings were deep fried before being drizzled with seasoned marmite gravy. Not entirely like marmite as the taste were more on the sweet side. Pretty addictive though.

Fried Wan Tan and Sui Kow
This is the fried stuff where I enjoyed eating the most. The wan tan and sui kow were freshly fried resulted to a mild crisp on the outside that went well with the decent paste within. One helping is never enough. Best to dip with some mayonnaise.

Oil Fritters Stuffed with Fish Paste
Decent and nothing really "wow" in particular.

Fried Chicken Boxing
Well fried, well breaded and well seasoned. Another favourite dish of mine.

Kam Heong Crab
Lived up to the name of it. Adequate usage of dried shrimps to bring out the best of kam heong. Crabs were alright but were on the smaller size.

Those above mentioned dishes were actually the ready food. Good to serve your hungry stomach while waiting for your pot of steamboat to boil. As for the soup base, they were chicken, tom yam, herbal and soya to choose from.
Chicken and Tom Yam Flavour
The chicken soup base is pretty decent. However, the tom yam soup base is rather a let down as it was flavoured way too tangy.

Time to move to the open fridge to pick the choice of your fish balls and many other ingredients offered by the stall.
Pick your choice of the many fish balls

Just one each could make up a full plate

Sliced meat, fish and other seafood were catered as well

They are very generous with the ingredients

Different plate with different ingredients
Amongst my favourite was the Hokchiew fishball where it was stuffed with some pork meat within. Pork ball, sotong ball and vegetable ball made up the list of my favourites.

It is ready when the soup is boiling

Choices of sauce
I'm a bit disappointed with their sauces though. None of them appealed to my taste, not even the basic chili sauce.

A seafood lover you are? Don't worry because they have many type of seafood to compliment your steamboat.
Some of the clams and shell seafood

Fresh Meat Crab
Grab your piece before they are gone. Hot stuff! Please be gentle though and think of the rest.

Fresh water Prawn
The size are rather big and the meat is succulent. I like the part where they keep refilling them whenever it is emptied.

Steamboat should taste better if it is accompanied with some vegetables. And for this, the stall have at least 9 choices of vegetables for you to choose from.
Variety of vegetables

Just in case you want some noodles, they do prepared them for you as well. They even have the Udon noodles.
Assorted noodles

Being a person with sweet tooth, I'm rather particular with their offering on desserts. I must admit that I do enjoyed having their desserts a lot.
Tau Foo Fa Jelly
Tasted a bit flat though but did enough to persuade me for a few helpings.

King's Ice Cream
My personal favourite would be the Chocolate and Chocolate Mint Flavour.

You can take as many food as you want. But do remember that, always take within your consumption limit. It's always good to be prudent. Buffet are meant to be enjoyed.
Please avoid wastage

The ready food were all good and some of them were awesome. There were wide variety of steamboat ingredients and seafood to choose from as well. Coupled with a wide array of vegetables and noodles, it really spoil you for choices. Most important, they were all fresh.

The drawback would be the need to order the drinks on an extra surcharge. Apart from that, I must say that I really had a great time enjoying my buffet steamboat here.
